Perth-based provider of global, innovative project solutions - CTEC - has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract for Hamersley Iron’s West Angelas Power Station Project (WAPS) in WA’s Pilbara region.
This is the second major contract to be awarded to the WA company, with CTEC having recently won the EPC contract for AGL Energy and APA Group’s Diamantina Gas Fired Power Station in Mt Isa, Queensland.
Under the contract, CTEC will design, supply, manufacture and construct two low emission GE LM6000 PF Sprint Open Cycle Gas Turbine units that will be dual fuelled with the capability to run on natural gas and diesel fuel.
“These gas turbines lead the push to reduce water consumption with their state of the art dry low nox system and low carbon emission profile whilst still maintaining a high level of efficiency”. Stated Neil Robinson CTEC Managing Director
The project is part of the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Power System Upgrade 330 Project and will include construction of the new power generation and transmission infrastructure to support Rio Tinto Group’s plans to increase iron ore production capacity to 333 million tonnes by 2015.
The WAPS Project is expected to create significant opportunities for the local economy through new employment prospects for local trades and contractors.
CTEC Managing Director Neil Robinson said: “In eight years CTEC has grown from a small, one project company to a multimillion dollar organisation with a global client base.
“This is due not only to technology development and the hard work of our staff, but also to the foresight of leading companies such as Rio Tinto, which look to combine the best home grown and global talent to further enhance WA’s resource industry,” he said.
With a dedicated team of Perth staff prepared to take on a challenging new adventure, we can now announce the opening of our CTEC QLD Office.
