FIRST FIRE AT KWINANA SWIFT POWER STATION

First fire in Gas Turbine two at the Kwinana Swift Power Station marks the completion of cold commissioning.

Thursday the 10th of June, at 2pm, CTEC site staff  established a first fire in Gas Turbine two at the Kwinana Swift Power Station.

In the days following CTEC will complete power turbine(PT) break away. This is when the exhaust gases from either Gas Turbine is used to turn a third turbine connected to the generator.

During the PT break away we use either gas turbine’s exhaust to apply pressure and cut the seals on the power turbine. When we start to see rotation the break away is complete.

After PT is achieved we further accelerate the Gas Turbine to establish a power turbine break in (much like a new car engine). This is expected to occur on Monday, 14th June.

CTEC we will run the Gas Turbine for about 5 hours and hold the power turbine at 3000 rpm (50Hz). When  complete the unit is ready for synchronisation post Brush electrical checks.

After PT break in the unit will undergo 3 days of generator electrical tests prior to initial   connection to the transmission system.

Congratulations to the CTEC site team on a successful first fire.
